Iain Dale reveals all.... only on Tory Radio next week

Coming Next Monday.... all the questions you'd ever wanted to ask Iain Dale, the joint editor of The Little Red Book of Labour sleaze.

Now why exactly does he support West Ham??

Growing together

This month Tory Radio has seen its best month in terms of downloads - with our "bandwidth" more than quadrupling our initial estimates.

No doubt that was down to the very helpful publicity generated by the well publicised Francis Maude interview.

To maintain this growth, and to make the podcasts even more professional we need your help.

We currently have 1 bid each for the Tory Radio mugs featured above. One is signed by Tim Montgomerie - Editor of Conservative Home, one by Andrew Turner MP, the Shadow Charities Minister, and one by yours truly. I probably shouldn't tell you this - but a bit of £20 or more could well secure you either of these great "collectors items". Just email editor@toryradio.com with your bid and which mug you would like! Go on.. you know you want one.

And if that wasn't enough - there are still some of those brilliant "Vote Blair Out bands".... and you can bid for them at this link.

A big thanks to all of you who have contributed already!

Tory Radio goes all continental

Apologies for a lack of posts ( and the delay in publishing any of your comments) over the next couple of days - but I will be heading off to Brussels with work on Thursday.

But do not fear for Tory Radio will be heading to Brussels too - and who knows.... I could well do the first podcast that starts in this country and ends in continental Europe...... more news on who will face a grilling later.

Hopefully I'll also bump into a few of our MEPs while I'm there to get any news and gossip from them.

Too few convictions... too many in jail?

Two stories both appearing on BBC News online today. I agree with one and not the other.

Convictions too few - Goldsmith
Conviction rates for serious offences such as wounding and rape are too low, the Attorney General has admitted.

Lord Goldsmith said victims had a right to be worried but the government was working to tackle the problem and more offenders were being taken to court

Too many in jail, says top judge
Far too many people are being imprisoned in England and Wales, the country's top judge has warned. Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips told the Guardian that offenders should be rehabilitated in the community, and be sent to jail only as a last resort.

Too dangerous to deport - part two?

Coverage courtesy of the Derbyshire Times.

An interesting case. You can break the law on several counts - but because you have come from somewhere we cant send you back - well then there is nothing we can do.

My question is why doesn't this warrant a jail sentence???

Only four days to go...

Until part two of the Francis Maude interview.....

Coming to Tory Radio this Monday!

Wednesday, May 24, 2006

You really couldnt make it up!

It clearly isn't just Tory Radio that has some interesting stories on it. On the way home I was listening to the radio and the following story (paraphrased) just beggars belief.

A failed asylum seeker (point 1) crashed his uninsured car (point 2) and then jumped bail (point 3). Apparently he cant be deported (point 4) so the authorities will keep an eye on him (point 5).

Is it me? Am I unreasonable? BUT.... aren't there 5 reasons to be pretty outraged about this?

What would happen if I didn't have insurance?
What if I jumped bail?
Would I be allowed to stay in a country like the US without a work permit?
Would I be put in jail after point 2 and 3???

Press Coverage of Tory Radio

The latest podcast featuring Party Chairman Francis Maude certainly attracted quite a bit of publicity as the articles from The Times, The Evening Standard and The Telgraph Show.

Was it really newsworthy what Francis Maude was saying? Basically he seemed to be saying the party wanted to ensure the right candidates would be selected for the right seats.

Makes sense to me. What do you think?

A BUNCH OF MUGS ON TORY RADIO.....

Well no I'm not referring to the guests who have appeared on the podcast so far!

We have finally had the first consignment of Tory Radio mugs.

One is signed by the great Tim Montgomerie of Conservativehome fame, one by one of the greatest campaigners in the party, and current Shadow Charities Minister, Andrew Turner MP, and the other by some bloke who edits Tory Radio whose name escapes me.

From today these mugs

COULD BE YOURS!

You have two weeks to email me a "sealed bid" as to what you would be prepared to pay for one of these mugs. (Please specify which one you want). All proceeds go to keeping improving Tory Radio. Email editor@toryradio.com

Go on... make a bid!

You cant let a Tim Montgomerie signed mug go for a tenner can you? You could have a mug signed by a Shadow Minister. As for the other one - well you could put it in the dishwasher which could only increase its value!

Send your bids in now editor@toryradio.com

Eric Forth MP 1944 - 2006

The Tory Party has lost one of its great characters.

Often seen as a maverick and always sporting a colourful tie, Parliament will be a worse place without him.

Our thoughts go to his family and friends.

Talking with Turner

The following interview was recorded towards the end of March (if my memory serves me correctly). Andrew Turner MP is currently Shadow Charities Minister and MP for the Isle of Wight. He first fought the Isle of WIght in 1997, failed to win - stuck around and defeated a Lib Dem incumbent in 2001. He now has a five figure majority which is a testimony to what a campaigner he is.

Maude speaks out

Following on from the A list controversy, Tory Radio took the opportunity to interview party Chairman, Francis Maude MP. Listen to what he has to say on the local election results, where the party is going, and what he things about the A list when the interview "goes live" on Monday.

But don't feel disappointed.... for tomorrow we have an interview with Andrew Turner, the MP for the Isle of Wight, former Party Vice Chairman, and current Shadow Charities Minister.
