Guido Fawkes should replace Francis Maude as chairman of the party immediately.

Good interview. I think it highlights one of the things I've always approved of in Maude - he's honest, he's the first to admit when he's made a mistake, and he manages to seem in touch with the real world whilst simultaneously managing the unwieldy behemoth that is CCHQ.

Looking forward to the next installment!

My response to the first 15 mins of the interview is "stop making excuses and get a move on".

He admits we were "outcampaigned in many ways" but goes on to dismiss the importance of by-elections to the Tories -

"For the Lib-Dems by-elections are much bigger thing than for us, we're a national party..."

Francis still needs to take by-elections more seriously. As part of the "embryonic by-elections team" he actually needs to appoint someone who is responsible for by-elections - which is what the Dems have.

By-elections create eight to twelve bad news stories per Parliament which is unacceptable.

I hope that he achieves early MP selection as he suggests.
